Bit and Toots and I had a GREAT Adventure! We went to see Taylor Swift at the RBC Center in Raleigh, NC. It was the best. THE BEST. It was Toot's first concert. Santa had left tickets in the girl's Christmas Stockings. We spent a LONG DAY in Clayton, NC,--participating in an event where all of my Brownie Girl Scouts bridged up to Junior Girl Scouts. It was hot, sticky, long-at-times, and meaningful...I have 16 girls that are officially Juniors. My girls and I, at around 5pm, made our way to the Conference Center Bathrooms and with perfume, toothbrushes, and deodorant in hand--we spruced ourselves up as best as we could--changed into concert wear and Cowboy boots-- and JOYFULLY Headed to the RBC Center to await Taylor.
I didn't realize this until tonight--but I short changed myself when Bit was in 3rd Grade--a friend of hers invited her to go see Clay Aiken in concert. Without thinking, I said sure she could go. Why not? My parents never let me got to concerts going up--such an odd thing to enforce--but there were no concerts for me. Within a month of my going to college, I was a concert-going-fool and I never looked back. I first saw Billy Idol with my friend, Deedles, and a long list followed suit.
I decided to let my kids go to concerts. I felt that the taboo of concerts prompted my attendance during college and not always did I practice smart behavior while in attendance of said concerts.
So--Sadly, I missed Bit's first foray into a Concert Stadium. I don't know how snappy Clay Aiken may or may not have been--all those years ago? Dry Ice? I think Not? Pyrotechnics? mmmmm--but I missed seeing Bit see lighters swaying and the all purpose adrenaline of a CONCERT.
We had decent seats. We were first row of the upper level. When Taylor came to our side we could see her--without the binoculars that I had brought. We used those too, but they weren't critical. Holly was a maniac. She screamed. She waved. She just knows that Taylor looked directly at her. She did heart motions with her hands. She screamed. Bit and I smiled at each other often and wondered who this foreigner was that we brought to the concert.
Taylor worked that crowd. The venue had sold out in 20 minutes or some such record time. 13,500 tickets--poof, gone! I scored great ROLLING STONE TICKETS a million years ago, in the same fashion, the first 20 minutes. This time I wasn't so lucky and had to go to the scalper websites...ooops, rather Santa did.
Every girl aged between 15 and 24 either wore a Baby Doll dress and Cowboy boots or Long Dresses and Cowboy boots. The MEMO clearly was Dress and Boots. Cowboy Boots. Bit wore her Austin, Texas, Cowboy boots. And I wore mine, too. With jeans, however. I told B. Daddy that seeing this concert with our girls was perhaps one of the TOP 3 Memories that I've had since Bear left.... it was a glorious night.
