Vodka Gimlets

With the movie Julie/Julia coming to theaters this month...I quickly got my read on and borrowed a friend's book and read it. I then went and saw the movie. I can think of several people, in my tiny world, that were so inspired to begin their very own Mastering the Art of French Cooking recipes and they continue to make complicated Frenchy recipes.

ME? I was not inclined to make aspic or mess with duck--or do all the eggs in the various forms or to create the rich sauces...."not me," I said. At the end of the day--the food didn't appeal to me. Nada.

I did however, like Julie Powell's book, very much. I read a review that called it a "potty mouthed" read. It shouldn't come as a surprise, that I like reading books with a potty mouthed voice. Julie Powell kept a blog in early 2002? 2003? It was hilarious and she had enough material from her blog to write a book, that later got made into a movie, starring, Meryl Streep.

The primary thing that I took away from the book, was the nightly beverage that she and her husband drank in happy moments and sad ones too. They prepared Vodka Gimlets on almost every 5 pages.

A quick Google search and I learned that Gimlets were first served at the turn of the last century. Made with gin....to prevent sailors with scurvy....yadda yadda. After 20 years of my being a whiskey girl--I've recently discovered my desire for this tasty new clear beverage.

Behold: The Vodka Gimlet, on my island.

Adorable gimlet glasses were $2.95 per glass at Crate and Barrel. However, plain glasses without RED tint are $1.95.....

Most refreshing beverage EVER....to be consumed after 5pm, please. At 4pm, if it is a really taxing day. It feels very Thurston and Lovey....to drink one....but one can not argue that a gimlet is a refreshing summer drink.
